When I was first diagnosed with PCOS in 2012 I was told by my doctor the best way to manage my symptoms was through diet and exercise. It was then that I stumbled upon the PCOS Diva website. The site was created by Amy Medling a certified health coach who offered hope, nutritional guidance, and encouragement. PCOS Diva became my go to for recipe ideas, healthy lifestyle tips, and it provided a sense of community support since she herself was diagnosed. I noticed she offered a PCOS Diva Jumpstart program but back then my life was packed with school, college, work, and family. Finding the time was challenging and I would tell myself that one day I would join the program when I had more time.
Now fast forward to my last post where I shared my goal about moving ahead with a renewed focus, practicing extreme self-care, eating healthy, exercising regularly, and making my well-being a priority. This was easier said than done and by this time I had gained weight, was exhausted all the time, and I did not feel like I was in charge of my well-being. I was letting it take over my life again and it was then that I remembered the PCOS Diva Jumpstart program. I visited Amy’s site and immediately signed myself up for the September Jumpstart Program.
In the day’s leading up to the program I received email updates offering menus, recipes’, shopping lists, daily motivation, and tips to help me get prepared. Any mother out there knows how difficult that can be when you find yourself putting other people’s needs before your own, but I did it. The protocol in the PCOS Diva Jumpstart Program outlined everything I needed to succeed and recommended excluding dairy and sugar from my diet. I was OK with letting go of sugar, but as an addict of cheese I knew omitting dairy from my diet was going to be rough. I decided I was going to give it my best shot because the way I was eating before was not working any more. Any time I would find myself wanting to give into eating poorly I would recite “You can have cheese anytime you want, but you are choosing not to eat it in this moment”. Knowing we were all on the same journey to gain control over our PCOS symptoms meant the world to me.
